Postscript: Further Discussion, Reflection, and Research Related to Doug Gillespie’s Artist Profile

Each week following an artist's post, reflection questions and research ideas will get posted. These are aimed towards college level courses (senior seminar, composition, dance education, and more), but of course anyone can read the postscript and find thought-provoking questions and activities.

1. Which 2-3 ideas from Doug's artist profile stuck out for you, and why? Discuss with a partner or as a whole class.

2. Doug wrote in detail about his non-dance work – what he does, why he does it, and the pluses and minuses of this kind of work. What options do you have in terms of non-dance work that can pay the bills? What skills do you have? What skills might you hope to gain in the near future so that you have more options for jobs?

3. Training. Post-college, how will you continue to train for dancing? If you are short on time or money, how will you creatively train? Brainstorm your options. You can also reference this short article on the topic as well:

4. Doug wrote about a recent project he could really "sink his teeth into." Looking at your projects over the past few years – as a dancer or choreographer – reflect on one project that you really could sink your teeth into. What made it that way — the cast, topic, performance venue, your growth as a dancer?

5. Kate Weare's work. Last, take a few minutes to research the company Doug Gillespie works for. Kate is considered one of the hottest choreographers in NYC. Research her website and Youtube clips:
