Each week following an artist's post, reflection questions and research ideas will get posted. These are aimed towards college level courses (senior seminar, composition, dance education, and more), but of course anyone can read the postscript and find thought-provoking questions and activities.
Research: Find out more about Sima’s MFA and PhD Programs
Sima completed her MFA through the low-residency program at
the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee. This is one of the few summer based
programs. Find out more here.
Also, there are only a few dance-related PhD programs in the
United States. Find out more about the Performance Studies Program at UC Berkeley.
Reflect: “I knew I had more studying to do.”
Whatever your age, what further studying do you hope to
do, informally or formally? Who do you want to study with, whether it be at a
studio, dance company, or graduate program? What do you want to explore? What
are your current passions, curiosities, and inspirations?
Discuss: Sima’s statement on contemporary dance
In her post, Sima wrote:
Contemporary dance is my core interest, perhaps because I
have a profound aversion to “gear.” All you need for a contemporary dance class
is a pair of old sweats and your bare feet. You don’t even have to have feet.
Contemporary dance is open to every living, breathing individual.
Do you agree or disagree? Discuss as a group or with a
partner. Talk about accessibility to contemporary dance – accessibility as a
student and as an audience member.
