Each week following an artist's post, reflection questions and research ideas will get posted. These are aimed towards college level courses (senior seminar, composition, dance education, and more), but of course anyone can read the postscript and find thought-provoking questions and activities.
Re-Read: Highlights of the Profile
Take a few minutes to re-read Mo's artist profile. Highlight and underline the words and phrases that resonate with you. Within a college course, discuss as a group these words and phrases. What made you personally stop and reflect on your own training and career path?
Consider: "Imagining a Career in Dance"
Mo wrote, "It was (and still is) hard for me to imagine dance as a career." Why might she have stated this? Do you feel similarly or differently? Why and how?
Reflect: Teachers in Your Life
Mo wrote about many of her teachers in her life being sources of inspiration and encouragement. Who has provided this for you in the past, or is providing it right now for you? If you are teaching right now in your life, how do you provide inspiration and encouragement to your students?
Discuss: "Sharing Dance"
In the section about the role of teaching in her dance career, Mo discussed the ideas of a satisfying dance career and of sharing the love of dance with other people. With a partner or small group, discuss how you share your love of dance and your gifts as a dancer. How does this relate to your future? What might a "satisfying dance career" look like to you?
