Each week following an artist's post, reflection questions and research ideas will get posted. These are aimed towards college level courses (senior seminar, composition, dance education, and more), but of course anyone can read the postscript and find thought-provoking questions and activities.

Discuss: "Training"
As Shelley described her dance life in her 20s, and dancing with Nancy Spanier, she commented about "'training' onstage rather than in the studio." In a class, discuss what this phrase means to you. What training do we receive through performance opportunities?
Discuss: The Experience of Watching Dance
Shelley noted about Trisha Brown's work…..
the first time that i saw her work was at city center theater in new york shortly after moving to the city, and i was blown away by the performance. for me up until that point, the experience of watching dancing never matched the physical/intellectual/spiritual experience of dancing itself. watching this work almost felt like dancing it, and i could see as well as feel both it's clarity and it's mystery.
What does this passage mean to you and your inspiration for being on stage, and whose work you do?
Research: Movement Research in NYC
Shelley is teaching a regular Alexander technique group class at Movement Research this Spring/Summer. Spend 10 minutes on its website – reading about its classes, workshops, journal, email lists, and more. Click here.
Reflect: Question Everything
speaking of questions, there is a difference between the question "should i dance, be a dancer?" and "how can i dance/be a dancer in this moment?" and "how can i make this happen?"
Spend 10 minutes, for yourself, journaling about these questions….
