Teaching artist statement:

Teaching movement deeply connects me to dance and my community more than any other practice has before. I am constantly researching dance (seeing shows, taking class, reading) in order to convey what is currently relevant, creating class material which opens my mind to new ideas (and sometimes morphs into the work I set on my company), discovering how to convey technique to a wide audience of bodies that might not work the same way mine does (which informs my own practice), and sharing and inspiring a love for this art form with hundreds of inspiring students a week ranging from age 3 to adult. It’s wonderful!

Income statement:

Tanya earns 86% of her income from teaching. 10% is from creating or setting work on primarily youth ensembles, 3% is from performance stipends and 1% is from administration for her dance company.
