Summer Program Spotlight: Dance Exchange Summer Institute

There is still time to sign up for summer workshops and professional development throughout the United States. Today I would like to highlight an inspiring workshop that I myself participated in as an undergraduate. The work of Dance Exchange (founded by Liz Lerman) offers deep work to explore the intersection of dancemaking and changemaking.

As Amanda Newman, Resident Artist/Communications Coordinator for Dance Exchange, describes the program:

In short, the 2015 Dance Exchange Summer Institute is an opportunity to join the company for an 8-day immersive experience connected to our multi-year project, New Hampshire Ave: This Is a Place To…  . Participants will explore Dance Exchange tools and practices while collaborating with local artists, city planners, community organizers, and residents in Takoma Park, MD, to plan, facilitate, and perform in a large-scale community festival culminating in a fresh take on Liz Lerman's landmark work, Still Crossing. All ages, backgrounds, and abilities are welcome.

In our eyes, this is a really exciting, alternative summer experience which prepares artists, organizers, and changemakers of all backgrounds to work in the intersection of artmaking and community engagement.
