From Blog Director Jill Randall:
From August 2014 through August 2015, every day I took a few minutes to write down a dance-related word or phrase from the day. These words emerged from rehearsals, taking class, teaching, graduate school, choreographing, and other projects. The daily practice was a beautiful thing. I highly encourage that you try it as well – even for just a week or a month.
Many of these words can be literal, and also metaphorical. I love the play on words. And I love the intersection of movement and language within my dance practice.
Throughout 2016, I will share once a month the list of words and ideas. My hope is that they will offer inspiration for you within your own practice, or become something to share within a college course. Food for thought. Here are pictures from the journal and also a PDF of the words and phrases.
Two of my teachers are noted below – Randee Paufve and Elizebeth Randall. Both teach regularly in Berkeley, California at Shawl-Anderson Dance Center. Read more about Randee here and about Elizebeth here.
