From Blog Director Jill Randall:

Lately, I have been thinking about dance writing and dance publicity. How do we share/invite/entice/preview a work for our potential audience members? Bay Area artist Claudia Hubiak and I are playing with this idea for the 7 days leading up to her show, Point of Dissolve, at the ODC Theater in San Francisco from October 19-21. What are the big questions driving your work right now?

My work is always filtered through the lens of Buddhist perspective, but this particular work delves into questioning the value of work in terms of rigor and effort. In Shambhala Buddhist training we are offered the idea that each human being is basically and inherently good. We don’t need to change who we are, work harder to be something better, but rather find more space for both our shortcomings and accomplishments in order to grow acceptance for the whole person. In my experience, lack of worthiness is a social epidemic that we are all faced with… we are subconsciously drawn to this idea that if we work harder, do more, think the right thoughts, have the correct reactions that will find peace, and then we can finally relax with ourselves. Point of Dissolve addresses these habits and questions how hard we need to work to be good enough.
