Dreaming/Preparing/Dancing: 2 Days Until the Premiere of EAMES by Kristin Damrow & Company

Some questions for Kristin today:
Why perform at ODC? What do you love about this space? How is it the right fit for this work, and how you want it to be viewed?

ODC has long served as an incubator, not only for local and international artistic talent, but for community members who love to dance. ODC is known for presenting state-of-the-art shows with high production quality. It sets a gold standard. It’s the place where I dreamt of EAMES being seen. The wood floor, the intimacy but also vast feeling space, exposed brick…so much to love. If Ray and Charles would have stepped into the space, I feel they would have been inspired!

We are also excited to use the lobby space of the theater to first greet audience members with a a pop-up art gallery reception, as an introduction to the Eames’ work. The gallery will be complete with the Eames’s renowned chair designs to set the mood of the the performance and to inform the audience of the Eames legacy.

ODC has also been instrumental to my growth as a dancer, teacher, choreographer and company director. I have always felt welcome — whether in class, where I first met so many lasting friends and colleagues, in the rehearsal space, where I spent countless hours creating and crafting my first works as a choreographer, or at the front of the classroom, while teaching as a faculty member at the ODC School. ODC has helped me to build a community of dedicated students, peers, and collaborators. EAMES has been such a leap in a new direction for me choreographically that it felt fitting to expose this new “side” of me at a space that feels so much like a dance home.
