Dreaming/Preparing/Dancing: 7 Days Until the Premiere of ka·nei·see collective’s Nevertheless

From Blog Director Jill Randall:

Lately, I have been thinking about dance writing and dance publicity. How do we share/invite/entice/preview a work for our potential audience members? Along with San Francisco Bay Area artists Tanya Chianese and Heather Arnett, we are playing with this idea for the 7 days leading up to their show, Nevertheless, at CounterPulse from April 19-22. This is an incredible collaboration between the ka·nei·see | collective and Cat Call Choir. (Get your tickets here.)

Today, we asked Artistic Director Tanya Chianese (ka·nei·see | collective) and Song Writer Heather Arnett (Cat Call Choir) to share 5 words or phrases to describe the work….

From Tanya Chianese:

In rehearsal we call each vignette in the show by a name that usually refers to its impetus. Five important ones to me are:

  1. Lick You Lullaby
  2. Please Don’t
  3. Safety First
  4. Pina Bausch is Still Relevant
  5. And of course, the title inspiration of the show: “Nevertheless, she persisted.”

From Heather Arnett:

  1. Funny/not funny
  2. A contained, precisely aimed blast of sarcasm
  3. Irreverent
  4. Twistedly beautiful
  5. Humorously probative
