A Year of Wellness: Awareness + Healing

From Blog Director Jill Randall:

I just completed the quick read of the tiny book How to Not Always Be Working: A Toolkit for Creativity and Radical Self-care by Marlee Grace. The book is more like a personal essay in book form with a lot of author self-reflection, but I enjoyed the experience of reading it nonetheless in my journey around wellness, work, and careers.

Today I want to share the most powerful concept I gleaned from the book – from page 13. Marlee Grace inspired me to view the idea of wellness in a new way this weekend. Thank you! In this passage, she is talking about awareness:

Always working proved to be completely unsustainable for my mental health and also for those around me. So I set out on this mission to correct this and am happy to report that by bringing in just the awareness, just a willingness to be aware, much growth has happened.

And:

Through this, my relationship with working has begun its healing process.

Now, I realize that I am pulling out this text and stretching it a bit to apply it to my own life, and maybe it will extend to yours as well. I am telescoping in on the words awareness and healing. The musing -  the offering – today is…..how can my journey towards wellness be a practice of awareness and healing in my life? I just love these two words.

Awareness: the attention to what brings wellness and what prevents or prohibits.

Healing: how can a process and actions of healing bring wellness/calm/joy/ease into my body and into my whole life?
