Whole Body, Going
A movement poem for March 19, 2020 by Jill Randall
Walking, soft feet
Shifting, soft ankles
Slow motion kicks, reaching out
Hula hoop hips, smile
Rib cage – circling + rolling
Shoulders – circling up + back, lifting + lowering
Head – tilting, nodding
Whole body – stretching into a balance
Pause.
Let go of it all.
Reset
Restart
Circling
Swirling
Extending
Gathering
Wringing
Bouncing
Bounding
Shaking
Running, in place
Running a bit faster
Now slowing it down
Decelerate
Go for a walk.
Walking, soft feet
Shifting, soft ankles
Slow motion kicks, reaching out
Whole body – stretching into a balance
Allow breathing, allow small movements
Still dancing, still in motion
Thank you for this mini dance.

May I suggest for today's movement experience that you first read the poem aloud to yourself?
Step 2 – try moving while I read the poem aloud. It is about 2 minutes long. I am sharing my audio recording of it via SoundCloud.
Try it again with the recording!
Let the whole poem – this word bank of words – inspire an improvisation. I need some levity today, and love this short music composition of Michael Wall's entitled "Octolove Bossa." It is 1:52 in length. Check it out here on this playlist. You can listen to it in full. It is #45 on this playlist. Let's dance! Here's to movement, here's to some joy in your day.
