Upward, skyward

Soften the gaze

Hello!

Music for today = "Night" by Michael Wall. It is #9 on this playlist.

To begin today, play with the title of the poem and the concept of anchors. What kinds of movement – kinds of actions – feel anchoring to you? Try those out for a minute or two. Which body parts anchor you in space (not just your feet)? What role do the eyes play in anchoring and grounding?

Next, select one line from each stanza of the poem. Play and explore with those words.

Last, I hope you will create a short movement phrase. You might go line by line, or you might make a short phrase of about 8 ideas that capture the essence of the poem. Play with dynamics and size of movements. Then, go back through your phrase and decide where your eyes and focus are in each moment. Specificity and choicemaking –
