Movement Poem #32 (You Choose)

You Choose poem

You Choose

A movement poem for April 15, 2020 by Jill Randall

Here

is an order

a suggestion

an offering

You might

like it

take it

run with it

Or,

please,

mix it

up.

Cross out words +

edit it down.

Let’s not be

so…

bound.

walk

pause

soften

buckle

shift

reset

pivot

walk

jog

slide

shift

dodge

look

decelerate

stop

Hello!

Today's music = "5 115" by Michael Wall, which is fourth on this playlist.

Today let's channel a sense of play and curiosity. I am thinking of my colleague Molly Rose-Williams and dedicate this to her. (Read more about her improvisation practice here.)

Warm up with the words = try out all 15. Play with stationary movement, traveling movement. How easeful can you make it? Can you take it down by 10% in effort?

Pick out 4-6 of the words that most interest you and your body today. Write them down. How many different orders can you explore with these words? Or, distill it down to 2-3 words and improvise a simple duet or trio of these ideas. (I pick jog, pivot, and shift.)
