Movement Poem #38 (light)

Light poem

light

a movement poem for April 21, 2020 by Jill Randall

as a performer

I have always

looked to the world

for potential backdrops

+ beauty –

+ composition

I love shadows

I love light

I wonder if I could be a

shadow today

over there

on that wall

elegant motion

clarity

edges

softness

beauty

quiet action

sometimes subtle

occasionally highly detailed + specific

my shadow self dancing

now in your view

Hello!

Today's music selection is "4 30" by Michael Wall. It is #3 of this playlist. Oh, I love this song! Additionally, I wanted to suggest Michael's cover of "Fade into You." But, you have to have Spotify to access this song here. Two options for shadows dancing.

The poem plays with the images of literal shadows and also our shadow side. If possible, go for a short walk in your neighborhood or on campus. Where are the shadows? Are they still or in motion?

Improvise and play – static shadows, slowly moving shadows, and highly detailed shadows. Light and darkness; our shadow self.

Build yourself a short phrase riffing off of the poem and words. You don't have to go line by line –
