Movement Poem #44 (Time/Timing/Tempo)

Time poem

Time/Timing/Tempo

A Movement Poem for April 27, 2020 by Jill Randall

slow motion

fast forward

all the time in the world

not needing to keep

track of time

release, let go of,

allow for space,

opportunity,

and options

no watch,

clock,

countdown timer

just an internal sense

of today

Hello!

Today's music selection is "Reload – The Remix 2020" by Michael Wall. It is first on this playlist and is a longer track, 16 minutes in length.

As dancers, so much of our life is set in time and bound to time – the phrasing of choreography, the dates of the shows, the time to begin and end our classes.

Today, can moving be a healing and recuperative practice, as we let go of time? What if you move as slow or fast as you want? What if you move and noodle for as long or short of an amount of time as your body wants/needs today?

Where do pauses and stillness fit in?

What if you made a short movement phrase today, loosely based on the poem, and this movement phrase is meant to feel healing and restorative? What 6-8 movements will you choose today, and what will the tempo be?
