Movement Poem #48 (an entrance, moving backwards)

Poem today

an entrance, moving backwards

a movement poem for May 1, 2020 by Jill Randall

back body
back space
back of the heart
moving backwards is so hard

vulnerability
trust
softening,
soles of feet
softening,
chest, front of the heart, throat, face

retreating?
rewinding?
reversing?

no, just a different perspective
and choice of direction

Hello!

Today's music suggestion is "Soft" by Michael Wall. It is 7th on this playlist.

Let's begin today playing with direction and direction changes. Begin warming up with walking, jogging, lunging, grapevining. Moving forward, backwards, side to side. Head to the floor and play with crawling, rolling, and sliding in many directions. Do a few big passes across your space changing directions, levels, and facings many times.

Build a quick sketch based broadly on the poem. Then, revisit it and play with softening. How can you find ease in your eyes, neck, back of the head?
