One of my favorite posts each year is this one – sharing about the new titles from the past year. I also now have the privilege of doing book reviews and write-ups for Dance Teacher as well, which I love.
Looking over this list, The Grand Union and Hot Feet and Social Change most captivated me with content and format of these books. The Grand Union explores the short-lived but incredible improvisational group in the 70s with modern icons like Trisha Brown; Hot Feet and Social Change magnificently documents African diasporic dance in the United States.
Please note that the focus of this list is primarily on modern and contemporary dance, somatics, dance education, and dance history. It for sure does not capture every dance book from the year. Please feel free to add titles in the Comments section below. Let's add to the list together.
I hope that some titles will pique your interest, and if you work at a school, college, or studio, I encourage you to ask your chair or employer if you can purchase some new titles for the school's library and teacher resource shelf.
In an effort to support independent bookstores, I tried to first link to Mrs. Dalloway's (Berkeley, CA) before linking to amazon.com. Please support your local independent stores when you can!
