For Arts Administrators: A Virtual Summer Book Club

From Blog Director Jill Randall:

Responding to several conversations recently with arts administrators from around the United States, it seemed like a great time to read and discuss a book together. We are going to explore The Cycle: A Practical Approach to Managing Arts Organizations by Michael M. Kaiser. Would you like to join us? Whether you run a dance company, studio, or non-profit, let's read and reflect together. Aspiring arts administrators and college students are welcome to join in as well.

How will this work? The easy steps include:

1. Purchase your own copy of the book here. The book costs around $20.

2. Respond in the comment section below that you want to be a part of the project.

3. Every two weeks, I will create a blog post to open up discussion related to two or three chapters from the book. What struck you and why? What are you wanting to apply immediately in your work? Blog posts will be on July 8, July 18, August 1, and August 15.

Let's maximize the use of technology and the internet to support our work as arts administrators!

  1. I’m in! As long as I no one minds that I play the “poor teacher turned grad student” card and pull the one from the Oakland Public Library shelf!
