Hello world!
My name is Rebecca Aneloski, and I am a MFA Candidate and Teaching Assistant at the University of Utah in Modern Dance. I’m so thrilled and lucky to be able to post my thoughts throughout the next two weeks here in Salt Lake City during this beautiful event called Salt Dance Fest! I’m in love with the idea of dance festivals. In my mind they are a brilliant way to bring people closer who might never meet otherwise. Everything dance begins Monday, and I am 100% ready to see what type of environment we can create. The artists are Jennifer Nugent, Jeanine Durning, Alex Ketley, and Daniel Charon — all who are beautiful souls. From what I’ve seen of their work and heard of their thoughts on dance. the next two weeks will be a physical brain teaser.
I’m from the University’s department, which means I’m already more familiar with this location and a good portion of the people here. This department has cultivated a space where I can come and dance and be around other dancers who care about the power that lives within respecting others. It’s a rare thing to find and when you do…well, let’s just say it’s refreshing. I’m the most anxious to meet this new community that has assembled here for this festival. How will this new group of people move, think and be? I am eager to grow as an artist, and I know these teachers who are investing in us will make this experience rewarding and intense.
Til next time ~ Rebecca
