Each week following an artist's post, reflection questions and research ideas will get posted. These are aimed towards college level courses (senior seminar, composition, dance education, and more), but of course anyone can read the postscript and find thought-provoking questions and activities.
Research: Trisha Brown
After reading Tamara's profile (ie a Trisha Brown company member), take some time to research or revisit the work of Trisha Brown. Look at the company's website, work posted on Youtube, and sections in your textbooks on Brown's work. She is an icon in modern dance. Look at the company's touring schedule to see if experiencing a live performance is possible this year. If you had to describe Trisha Brown's work in 2-4 sentences, how would you explain it to someone else unfamiliar with it?
Discuss: Tamara's Artist Profile
Tamara holds a special job here in the United States – one of the rare full-time company jobs. What were the steps that got her there? How old was she when she got into Trisha Brown? Discuss as a group.
Reflect: Bravery and Courage
In her advice for young dancers, Tamara wrote about "bravery." Consider the ideas of bravery and courage in relation to your dancing (your classes, pieces you have made, job choices, etc). When have you felt brave? Describe an experience in college or post-college. Consider courageous and brave steps forward you might take in the next year.
