Welcome to the new blog, “Life as a Modern Dancer.” This blog grew out of my passion to support future generations of dancers.
Each week, one dancer will be featured. Dancers will range in age, career history, geographic location, and more. My goal is to represent the many varied and wonderful ways people make a life as a modern dancer.
A new blog posting will come out each Monday, and readers can email in questions for the featured artist. Responses will be posted on Fridays. The blog "officially" launches on Monday, August 20th with a beautiful posting by San Francisco dancer Katie Faulkner.
The target audience for the blog is young dancers ages 18-25. Subscribe to the RSS feed to read each week.
The Life as a Modern Dancer Blog is an ideal tool to use within college dance courses.
One other priority of the blog is to show how frequently modern dancers teach dance as a key component of their livelihood. This fact is grossly underestimated in the dance community and college training programs, and the Life of a Modern Dancer Blog aims to illuminate the role of teaching in dancers’ lives and its value to artists in terms of ideas, community connections, and paychecks.
