The State by State Project, through Life as a Modern Dancer:

Throughout 2018, we will highlight one state per week….its arts council, dance education organization, festivals, artist residencies, dance companies, and more. We will link to previous posts of artists based in the state, masters programs, and city guides.

This ambitious feature hopes to highlight the abundance of arts in the United States as well as to challenge us to look at areas of the country seeking more arts and arts education.

MANCC:

MANCC is a magical and incredible opportunity for artists from around the country, to come together in Florida. MANCC is the Maggie Allesee National Center for Choreography (pronounced man-see). As stated on its website, the current programs include:

  • Choreographic Fellowships: MANCC offers Choreographic Fellowships to professional choreographers, to conduct their own creative research. Artists are free to take advantage of the center’s facilities and other resources, including technology.
  • Living Legacy: The Living Legacy program offers American artists of national or global significance a rare form of support – the opportunity, tools and expertise to document, preserve or further their own legacy and ideas.
  • Free to Rep: MANCC’s Free to Rep program is designed to encourage artistic experimentation by bringing together contemporary U.S. based repertory companies and choreographers in creative residencies. Choreographers should be either at an early point in their repertory development or aesthetically challenging to the company’s current repertory.

One response to “The State by State Project: Florida”

  1. I’d love to be a part of this conversation! As a Florida-based artist for over 15 years with a long history of arts advocacy, production and creation in the State of Florida, I’ve served on the board of the Florida Dance Association, as well as worked with the FDEO, and facilitated many international opportunities for artists throughout the State. Feel free to contact me through the University of South Florida or through my website.
