MashUp’s International Women’s Day Festival: Choose to Challenge (March 5th-8th)
By Camryn Eaglin
LA-based contemporary dance company MashUp is hosting its 5th annual International Women’s Day (IWD) Festival in a fully virtual fashion. The company, whose art uplifts feminist narratives through dance, hosts the festival in honor of women’s achievement, equality and empowerment. The overarching IWD 2021 theme is Choose to Challenge, where this year’s festival takes inspiration.
Events begin on March 5th with free master classes via Zoom from various professionals. These classes range from contemporary dance to a self-massage & stretching class. Also, be sure to check out their live stream choreographer showcase on March 6th at 6 pm (PST). View and honor the work of female choreographers in the community. On March 7th, you can verbally participate during their discussion panel on LA’s dance community and its opportunity to reshape after the pandemic. To close out the festival, join the IWD livestream celebration and observe the art of selected choreographers on March 8th at 6 pm (PST).
